For Part One, the student selects a theme, develops a research question, identifies sources, and writes about the process for finding sources. Therefore, the student will post a thread of 200–250 words and then 2 replies of 100–150 words. The purpose of Discussions is to generate interaction in regards to relevant current course topics. Textbook readings, presentations, videos, and learning activitiesĪfter reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.ĭiscussions are collaborative learning experiences. It is a required prerequisite for upper-level courses in European history and it may also fulfill a portion of the General Education requirement. This survey course introduces students to political, economic, military, religious, and cultural developments of the modern West in order to foster a better understanding of the conditions and challenges of the twenty-first century. The industrial growth of Germany and the United States, although later than other countries, lead to their becoming superpowers in later years. The governments of various European countries exhibited control over railroads and mines, gave subsidies to assorted industries, and promoted invention. ![]() ![]() The Industrial Revolution for Europe also saw a rise in government involvement. The role of private wealth was another major difference between the Industrial Revolution on the European continent and that of Great Britain. These include Britain's rapid population growth, ready supply of capital, and readily available quantity of coal and iron ore, stable government, and great supply of markets. The revolution began in Great Britain because of a number of reasons. Capitalism became the world's new economic model. It was a change from a traditional, labor-intensive, and agricultural society to a modern, machine-based, urban, and commercial society. The Industrial Revolution was not a rebirth, like the Renaissance. The Renaissance may have ended, but its contribution to the arts and its rebirth of past ideals of classicism and philosophy have had a lasting effect. World War II and the Cold War changed the face of the world and, even more specifically, Eastern Europe. She wrote about her experiences living as a Jew during World War II and the Cold War in her novel, Under a Cruel Star. our real life was now beginning and what to make of it was up to Heda Margolius Kovaly lived in Poland during a tragic part of the history of western civilization. ![]() It went on despite both the dead and the living, because this was a war that no one had quite survived.
